Welcome to Thagg Haus — your perfect escape on Bunurong Country.
Tucked between wild coastlines and green hills, our century-old miner’s cottage offers a soulful blend of heritage charm and modern ease. Whether you’re beach-hopping along the Bunurong Coastal Drive, cycling the Rail Trail, or hiking the George Bass Coastal Walk, Thagg Haus is your base for slow days and salty air.
Designed for couples, families, friends, and kindred spirits, it’s a space to reconnect — with nature, with each other, and with yourself. Come home to golden light, long table dinners, and stories shared by the fire pit or pizza oven.
Inside, thoughtful details invite you to slow down — layered linen, vintage finds, books to curl up with, and music that drifts through open windows. We’ve kept the quirks, softened the edges, and made room for life’s simple pleasures. All that’s left to do is arrive.

FAQs

Absolutely! We’re delighted to welcome your furry friends. A $50 pet fee is added to your booking to cover the extra housekeeping.
We kindly ask that you clean up after your pets, keep them off the beds and couch, and bring your own pet bowls, beds, and blankets to help protect our delicate fabrics and furnishings.
Please note that while the backyard is fenced, it’s not entirely escape-proof. There’s an old farm-style gate along the back fence line—secure underneath, but it may be jumpable for larger or more energetic dogs. We recommend supervising your pets while they’re in the garden. -
We do! You’ll find a generous basket of firewood, along with kindling and firelighters, ready for your stay.
If you run out, there’s a Bunnings just around the corner where you can easily restock.
The hardest part? Deciding whether to light the indoor fireplace, try your hand at pizza-making in the wood-fired oven, gather around the firepit under the stars, or do all three. -
Lately, we’ve been loving the short drive to Williamson’s Beach. We race each other up the sand dune to the left and settle in to watch the sky put on a show. Pure magic.
Alternatively, head to Kilcunda for a sunset cocktail with a view. Udder & Hoe is perfectly positioned to enjoy both good drinks and golden hour. -
Our absolute favourite is the Sunday Kongwak Market—we’ve found so many of our styling and furniture pieces there over the years.
The op shops and vintage stores in Wonthaggi are definitely worth a browse, and I recently visited a few in Cowes (Phillip Island) and came home with a couple of great finds too.
A drive out to Loch and Korumburra is always a treat. Loch has a beautiful antiques store and some lovely cafes, while Korumburra offers a handful of thrift stores—and both towns are charming little country spots worth exploring.

"I could not recommend Thagg Haus hosted by Kristy enough! We did a 3 night stay for my birthday and we both didn’t want to leave! This space is so beautiful and encourages reconnection (with the no TV) and relaxation. We spent sunsets down at Cape Paterson and cooked in the beautiful (and stocked) kitchen, star gazed out the back and had relaxing baths. Kristy was so helpful and friendly and we felt perfectly at home. Every detail around the house was perfect and we can’t wait to return one day! If you’re tossing up which place to stay in, this is the one!"

"We had such a wonderful stay at Thagg Haus, I highly recommend. Kristy was a wonderful host, she was quick to respond to queries and went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable. In addition to being a beautiful space, the kitchen is perfectly equipped with utensils, cookware and ingredients that allowed us to make delicious meals. The beds were comfortable with lovely bedding and multiple pillow options. You can tell she has put so much thought and care into the house itself, there are tiny details all throughout the space that are so aesthetically pleasing it made me feel like I was in a magazine. Our dog loved the big backyard and there were so many options for things to do and see only a short walk or drive away. Thank you Kristy, we loved our stay so much!"

"We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Thagg Haus! The attention to detail is incredible and everything adds up to a wonderful rustic and homely experience. We particularly loved the kitchen - it is extremely well stocked with basics and kitchen tools and appliances so you can prepare your own meals by the cosy woodfire heater. The two comfortable queen beds with beautiful soft linens were also a highlight. Our daughter loved the vintage school desk stocked with pencils and crayons. Wonthaggi is a great base from which to explore nearby towns, markets and beaches. We’d recommend visiting Meeniyan for Trulli pizza and Kongwak for the Sunday market!"
